These hormones can influence muscle, ligament, and tendon strength throughout the cycle. Here's how and why: 1. Hormonal Fluctuations Across the Menstrual Cycle The menstrual cycle typically lasts around 28 days and can be divided into three main phases: - Follicular phase (Day 1–14): Begins with menstruation; estrogen gradually increases. - Ovulation (Around Day 14): Estrogen peaks; surge in luteinizing hormone (LH). - Luteal phase (Day 15–28): Progesterone rises; estrogen drops slightly and then rises again. These hormonal changes affect connective tissues and muscles in several ways. 2. Estrogen and Tissue Laxity Estrogen has been shown ...

Unlocking Potential: Benefits of Baseline Testing in Youth Soccer Players

Over the last 15 years I have had the priviledge of working with many athletes, but soccer is one of the most intriguing of them all.  Why you ask?  Many soccer players I have worked with, especially youth, have said that there is little to no speed training involved with their organization.  If there is no speed training then that means there is no testing! One valuable tool when it comes to an athlete's performance at any level is baseline performance testing.  This assessment provides a snapshot of an athlete’s current abilities and offers numerous benefits that can lead to better training, and performance, and even help reduce injuries.  What Is a Baseline Athlete Performance Test?
